Exercises To Do After Stent Implantation

A stent is a wire mesh that is designed to hold an artery open in an area where a blockage is hampering blood flood negatively. A stent implantation is a very invasive procedure that will require a great deal of monitoring after the surgery is performed. So, it really is understandable why some would hesitate to begin exercise again after being told to remain cautious.

One should definitely consult with their doctors prior to engaging in exercise after having a stent implanted, however one should be able to slowly return to their normal routine as long as they do not overwork themselves too soon.

After taking five days away from any strenuous exercise activity, studies have shown that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) may help recovery and help reduce restenosis after the procedure. High intensity interval training is where you give all-out effort through quick intense bursts of movement followed by short rest periods.

These exercises will help blood flow through your arteries widening them to allow for better blood and oxygen flow. HIIT exercises are plentiful and range in difficulty; a good starting group after surgery would be groups of toe touches, lunges, high knees, arm circles, and side bends. As you become further accustomed and more comfortable, you can extend your workout to gain even more benefits – helping your body recover after the stent implantation.

If you incorporate HIIT into your daily routine after surgery, you could quickly feel as if you are back to normal and climb over the psychological wall of feeling as if you are fragile.
